Poster analysis

The audience is directly addressed by the main characters and they appear to be looking straight at us. In addition to this one character; who is centre of the poster has light glowing around him which represents him as a good character who we are meant to like. In contrast to this there is a dark figure at the back/top of the poster who is looking over everyone suggesting he is powerful and the colour black connotes sin and evil therefore causing the audience to be suspicious of this character. This contrast is called binary opposites. The character that appears to be good in this poster is standing between us and the suspected evil we can identify, this suggests that he is protecting us; consequently increasing this characters likeability.

This film poster has a mainstream appeal because we can identify the genre which is clearly a sci-fi/action. We can tell this because we can see space and some futuristic weapons and ships. Some people may consider the actors in this film good looking therefore creating a wider audience. There is also a black character in the bottom right of the poster which would also increase the target appeal as it encourages different classes of people to watch the film.
