Characters

Protagonist
Contemporary media represents certain groups using stereotypes. For example; the protagonist is normally a white male.....however, media is changing and other social groups are being accepted to have more prevalence. Star Wars - The Force Awakens (2015) did a good job of battling these stereotypes; the protagonist was a white female and the other main protagonist was a black male character which was very unconventional. In terms of the thriller genre, the lead protagonist can often be mentally unstable(Detective Mills - Se7en).

The protagonist could be a;
  • Innocent victim
  • dark pasts
  • Cops
  • Ex cop/military

The protagonist dominates the narrative of the story and the main events involve them in some way. Binary opposites create conflict and in thrillers the battle between them both often is psychological but mostly physical; depending on what hybrid combination has been used.

In my thriller production, the protagonist is going to be a detective; similar to Se7en. This detective is going to be very organised; following a routine - being precice such a detective Somerset in Se7en.

Details

  • Suit (At least a shirt - blue;loneliness)
  • Upper/middle class
  • middle aged
  • Male
  • White

Antagonist
Often the antagonist/villain of the narrative are masked throughout the film and have little dialogue. They may consist of;

  • Convicts
  • stalkers
  • assassins/hitmen
  • Serial killers
  • kidnappers
  • terrorists

The antagonist is the character that opposes the protagonist  and are usually devious and they can play psychological games with them.
